Welcome to episode number one. Today, our Word of the Week is Mazel Tov. Congratulations. You are one word closer to booking more Jewish clients. Now let's grow your business.

0:16
Welcome to the book more Jewish weddings podcast. I'm your host Pat Blackwell. As a Catholic farm girl in Minnesota, I certainly never expected to ever be the Jewish party Maven, but 4400 parties and 26 years later, I am indeed an expert at Jewish party. I am fiercely committed to helping the best vendors, book more parties in this amazing, lucrative and incredibly loyal Jewish party market. Let's go. now is the perfect time to prepare. Yeah, I know 2020 sucked. First COVID infected my business. When I fell off a ladder and broke my back. Then four months later, I broke my collarbone for God's sakes. But you know what? I am still here. And I am still really excited about this industry. Big bashes, we'll be back and better than ever. And Whoo, my phone is ringing. Are you ready?

1:19
Are you finding new markets and still thriving? Did you pivot? That seems to be the hot word of 2020? Good-bye 2020? Or are you just trying to ride out the COVID storm waiting for business to go back to what it used to be.

1:36
Things may take some time to be like they used to be.  Spoiler alert, parties may never be like they used to be. But you know what, they might be better than ever. Some vendors aren't going to make it through the storm. But here you are stepping up.  Good for you, you will get through this and stronger than before. Here's a quote I found really appropriate for today. "The secret of change is to focus all of your energy, not on fighting the old, but on building the new."

2:12
Socrates said that way back when, and it's still true. "The secret of change is to focus all of your energy, not on fighting the old, but on building the new."

2:34
So this is a Jewish wedding podcast. Maybe you're wondering why you'd even want to be in the Jewish market. I'll tell you why. There are 48,000 Jewish weddings in the United States each year. Jewish couples spend an average 20% more than other couples. This market throws the most epic parties.

3:15
in this business, we know that referrals can account for upwards of 80% of our business. So do you want to make more money this year? Then you're in the right place.  Cha-Ching.

3:28
We know that people want to work with vendors they know, they like and they trust. When you learn the Jewish traditions and customs, you earn that trust and grow your business.

3:41
One of the many things I love about the Jewish community is that they are incredibly loyal, and a tight knit group. Referrals are gold. So let me connect the dots here. 80% or more referrals, plus trust equal Cha-Ching

4:01
Don't just be better, be the best. Don't miss this opportunity to be the best in this market. My Jewish clients are asking me all the time, who's the best photographer, who's the best caterer? What's the best venue? They want to work with people they know, like and trust. They expect, they want, and I think they deserve the best. Even if you've worked a Jewish wedding in the past, get them talking about you. Take it to the next level. My business is 90% Jewish clients and my team manages over 250 events a year. My business the Red Coat Ladies is 100% referral based.

4:50
This is all about you, how to build trust and how to grow your business. I'm going to lead you every step of the way. You can join me here every week as we learn the traditions and vocabulary.

5:03
We will also cover general business strategies. We'll be talking to influencers, vendors, clients, and more.

5:10
Oh, you're gonna love this, stick with me here because towards the end of this podcast, I'll talk about how to get you on the Jewish Party Maven, certified vendor list.

5:20
Now, I know you might be thinking that you don't have any money to spend on learning new skills right now. Well, these podcasts are free. My Facebook group for vendors is free. What have you got to lose?

5:34
But what if you could book just two more weddings next year? How much profit is that? What have you got to gain? Likely a whole bunch!

5:59
Usually this time of year, we're all running on that hamster wheel just getting by.  This year, we actually have time to work on our business instead of in our business. I'm glad you're here. You're a rock star. Just by showing up. You're proving that you are ahead of most other vendors. Together, we are going to grow your business. By joining me every week, you will learn one new word that you can use when you're booking your new Jewish client. Yes, you heard me right, your new Jewish clients Cha-Ching.

6:33
This week's podcast is one called the Jewish Wedding Word of the Week. So raise your hand if you speak Jewish. Yeah, I guess I can't fool you. There is no such language as Jewish.

7:06
This week's podcast is one called Word of the Week. So let's get started with our new word this week. Mazel Tov. We will do this the Jewish party Maven way. Step 1: We will say it  Step 2: We will see it. Step 3:  We will save it in your brain by using it.

7:26
Like I said, this week's word is Mazel Tov. Well, I know I know. Mazel Tov is actually two words. The first word is Mazel, like M - A- Z -like zebra- E - L. The second word is Tov. T- like Thomas - O - V - like Victor. Step 1: Say it with me. Mazel Tov. Now, here's a little trick I learned from my DJ friends. I can't hear you. Say it again. Louder, Mazel Tov. See, you're doing great.

8:02
Do any of you know what Mazel Tov actually means?  I'll tell you, it is not the star of the hit Amazon prime TV series, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. But I love that show. Mazel Tov literally means congratulations. Mazel Tov is sometimes pronounced, Mazel TOV, or MaZEL Tov, or Mazel Tof. Tomato, tamato. If you're speaking Yiddish, you would say, Mazel Tov. If you're speaking Hebrew, you would say, MaZEL Tov.

8:36
It's hard to go wrong with this one, though.

8:41
Step2:  Let's see it. Now that you know how to say it. I told you, we would say it, see it and save it. So now it's time to see it. Yes, even on a podcast.

8:52
Have you ever played those memory games where you visualize something so that you can remember it later? Stay with me here. This is an important skill that might help you in other ways too.

9:05
Visualization is usually fun. It works best when you visualize objects that have some personal meaning to you. But here on this podcast, I'll give you some cues. So picture this, clear your brain and picture this. Your mother, your Ma, she is pointing to your big toe, and she's shouting that it's for sale. Yeah, I know. So weird, but Ma is about to sell your toe. Yikes. Mazel Tov. Mazel Tov. Congratulations. I mean, Mazel Tov. I mean, Mazel Tov, ma. Let's say it again. Ma is pointing to your toe. Ma is about to sell your toe. Congratulations. I mean, Mazel Tov.

9:52
See how easy that was? visualization is a powerful tool. Now, every time you see the word, Mazel Tov, you will think of this silly memory game.

10:00
And you'll remember that Mazel Tov means congratulations. Don't worry, I've got a freebie to help you remember this week's Word and more, check out the show notes and get my powerful cheat sheet. The Jewish Party Mavens 12 Jewish Words the Best Vendors Know.

10:18
Now Step 3: Let's save it in your brain by using it. When can you say Mazel Tov? Well, pretty much anytime you would say congratulations, you can say Mazel Tov. Even if you're not Jewish? Well, yes, you can.

10:36
When you arrive at a Bar Mitzvah party, you should greet the guest of honor with a hearty Mazel Tov, he would have already become Bar Mitzvah at the service. So anytime at the party would be appropriate to offer Mazel Tov to him or to his parents.

10:51
When a couple gets engaged, you should say Mazel Tov, when somebody has a new baby, Mazel Tov, when they get a new job, Mazel Tov.

11:00
For weddings, anytime after the wedding ceremony concludes, you could greet the bride and groom or their parents or grandparents with a hearty Mazel Tov. Before the wedding ceremony, not quite so appropriate. You would never greet a fighter as he's going into the boxing ring by shouting congratulations. You would only say that after he wins. And it's the same with Mazel Tov. Use it to say congratulations after the achievement. You've got this. Mazel Tov.

11:29
I have a silly story for you. One day I was working at Temple Israel and we had several banquet rooms. A delivery guy came in asking where he could deliver the cake for Mrs. Tov. I quickly skimmed the banquet sheets I had for that day. We showed a party for the Goldstein's over here, a party for the Bloomberg's over there, and several more, but no party for Mrs. Tov. Well, that delivery guy was pretty adamant. But so was I.  Finally he opened up the cake box and he says, look, it says right here, Mazel Tov.

12:01
After I stopped laughing, we looked at the rest of the details on his delivery ticket and got that cake where it needed to go. Do you have a fun, or maybe even embarrassing story to share? I want to hear your stories, too. Don't worry. We've all got stories. I'm sure got mine. I was not always the Jewish Party Maven. But that's for another day. Perhaps another podcast. My big Catholic family in Minnesota still wonders what I do for a living.

12:35
Are there some specific words or customs that you don't understand in this Jewish party world? Send me an email or join the Jewish Party Maven Vendor Rockstars private Facebook group. I want to hear from you.

12:48
Alright, let's get back to the Word of the Week. This week's word is Mazel Tov. So let's review. Say it. MaZEL Tov. Or Mazel Tov.

12:58
See it? Ma is about to sell your toe. Save it in your brain. Congratulations. You've done it. Mazel Tov, on learning your first word with the Jewish Party Maven.
